Recently JOA commissioned a very important dust collection system for a dry pet food manufacturer. The project posed several unique challenges as the process required a very high level of flexibility and ergonomic freedom for the operators to effectively and quickly perform their tasks. In addition, the dust emitted from the dry pet food manufacturing process is highly explosive, so a primary goal of this project is to effectively eliminate risks for explosive dust accumulation in the area. JOA developed a custom engineered system to best meet the requirements for high performance dust control while maintaining high productivity and plant safety. The customer has said that the air quality in the production area is now crystal clear, with no visible dust accumulation in the area. They are pleased with the performance of the new JOA dust collection system which has exceeded expectations.
JOA has been involved in silica dust collection upgrade projects for asphalt roofing manufacturers for the past 4 years. In November 2019, we learned that our 7th factory has achieved a sustained operator exposure level of below 50 μg/m3 (micrograms of silica per cubic meter of air) averaged over an 8-hour day. This is below the permissible exposure level (PEL) set by OSHA standard 29 CFR 1926.1153. The customer is very satisfied with their dust collection upgrade and the improvements in air quality, housekeeping and overall plant cleanliness.
In addition to JOA’s recent office expansion, JOA will be building a new Air Technical Test Lab. Here they will have the capability to simulate and test air flow, pressure, and transport velocities associated with hoods, duct, and mechanical devices as it relates to customer specific requirements.
Partnering with new customers has allowed JOA Factory Exposure Solutions to further expand its office size by nearly double. The expanded site will have roughly 5,000 SF that includes 700 SF of laboratory space and 1,000 SF of storage space. This expansion will be complete in Fall 2019.
